A Day in the Life

My day started off great.  Cooper grabbed a can of soda out of the hall closet and threw it on the floor.  I didn’t actually see it happen (I was sitting at the table eating breakfast), but I did hear Tim say, “Cooper, don’t do that” followed very quickly by a weird noise and a little bit of swearing.  The soda can burst open spraying the wood floor in front of our door, the carpet, and the wall with Pepsi.  So as Tim was waiting for the bus with Carter, I was getting the steam mop out and cleaning up the mess.

After that was cleaned up, it was time to get ready for school.  Today was my last day volunteering in Carter’s class.  Since I worked late last night I was pretty stiff this morning, so I decided to take a quick bath.  I was just getting into the tub when Cooper burst into the bathroom (I will address my total LACK of privacy another time!) with Carter’s kiddie camera and said “Cheese.”  Now for about a half second I started to smile…until I realized that I was naked in the bathtub.  But before I could say, “NOOOOOOO”, Cooper had taken my picture, which was immediately deleted!  🙂

I got home from school and picked Cooper up from my neighbor’s house.  I decided that I was going to make mac and cheese for lunch….not the kind in the blue box, but Kraft Homestyle Mac and Cheese, which I love and Carter HATES!  I knew that I was up for a fight, but I was really sick of peanut butter sandwiches, chicken noodle soup, and Spaghetti-O’s.  Normally I would try to sugar coat the whole thing by saying something like “Carter we are going to have some really yummy mac and cheese for lunch.”  But today I told him, “Carter you know that mac and cheese that you hate, but Mommy really loves…..we’re having that for lunch and if you don’t eat it for lunch you get it for dinner.”  After about a half hour he actually did eat it, but felt the need to tell me how much he despised it after each and every bite.

After lunch I decided to take the boys and a neighbor girl to the park in our subdivision.  It’s within walking distance so we decided that we would walk (not ride bikes or take a stroller).  The walk there was great, we had a blast at the park, and then Cooper pooped out on the way home…..which meant that I had to carry my 30 pound kid several blocks home.  🙂

We got home from the park and I tried putting Cooper down for a nap, but he only slept for about thirty minutes.  This meant my entire reasoning for WALKING to the park backfired…..he was suppose to take a two or three hour nap after all that walking and playing.

Since both the boys were up, we went back outside for a bit.  Carter wanted to play with his plastic tee ball set, so I set that up and the boys were taking turns hitting the ball…..until Cooper got a little too close and Carter hit him in the face with the plastic bat.  Now anyone with children knows that the longer a child waits to cry after getting hurt, the worse the injury is.  Cooper waited a LONG time to cry!  I scooped him up, got him in the house and he was covered in blood.  Nothing was broken, but he had a pretty bad bloody nose.  And I’m not sure if you’ve ever had a 2 year old with a bloody nose, but they DO NOT LIKE it when you try to pinch their nose shut to stop the bleeding.

In the midst of all the blood, Carter informs me that there is someone at the door.  I didn’t hear the doorbell ring, but I peaked out the door and saw a woman standing there.   I opened the door, and before she could even get a word out I said, “Not a good time.”  She saw Cooper standing behind me covered in blood, handed me a business card and said she was sorry for disturbing us.

Hmmmm….maybe I should let Carter hit Cooper with a bat more often if it means I don’t have to deal with people trying to sell me stuff.  Now if we could only time it just right!

So that was just another day in the life of me.  🙂

Carter is so WEIRD!

Carter is really starting to freak me out.  Lately he has been making this noise that sounds like a combination of a snake and a scary monster.  It’s really freaky.  And then he makes this really weird face while making the really freaky noise and it makes the whole thing that much more weird.

Now this wouldn’t be SO bad if he only did it in the privacy of his own home.  But oh no, he does this when we are out in public.  He especially enjoys freaking people out when they walk past us in parking lots, or if someone asks him a question at the store.  It’s so creepy.

Not sure how to make him stop.  Totally open to suggestions.  🙂

And I would like to take this opportunity to apologize once again to the lady that was standing behind us at the return counter at Walmart, and to the old guy in the cereal aisle at Pick N Save.  I know my kid is really WEIRD!

Shots

Cooper hates going to the doctor.  He does very good until the moment when the nurse comes out to take us back, and then the crying, kicking, and screaming start.  It doesn’t matter if he’s there for a check-up, a cold, or shots…..he HATES the doctor.

This week I had to take both of the boys with me for Carter’s appointment.  He didn’t have an appointment with his doctor, we were just going in for a shot which one of the nurses was going to give him.  I was totally prepared for Cooper to go into total tantrum mode, but apparently when Carter’s the one going in for a visit, going to the doctor is a lot of fun!  🙂

Now Carter was NOT excited about getting a shot.  Being the mean horrible mom that I am, I told him the night before that he was getting a shot the next day.  So when he got off the bus this morning, I piled them in the van and took the boys to McDonald’s for lunch (see I’m not really that mean!) and let them play a bit before heading to the doctors.  On the way Carter tried to bribe his brother to get the shot for him, but even at two, Cooper was too smart and wanted NO part of whatever Carter was offering!

When we got to the doctor’s office we were called back pretty quickly.  The nurse informed Carter that this was going to be his LAST shot for quite a few years.  She showed Carter his chart and ALL the shots he’s already had, and Carter was pretty excited to see that.  He plopped up on my lap, let the nurse give him his shot, and didn’t even cry.  And before the band aid was even on, Carter asked about getting his sticker for being a good boy (it’s amazing what my kids will do for a sticker.)

The boys went down the hall to the left, and knew exactly where the stickers were located (even Cooper who’s only 2).  Can you tell we are frequent visitors?  🙂

And then when we got home I realized that the nurse failed to mention the fact that Carter will need to get flu shots every year.  I GUARANTEE that Carter will remember the fact that the nurse told him he wouldn’t need any more shots for six more years.  And when that time comes (in a few short months), I’m totally prepared to tell Carter that the nurse LIED!  🙂

Jelly Beans vs. Cupcakes

This afternoon while Cooper was napping, I was busy making cupcakes for Carter’s birthday.  I was trying something new, making cupcakes inside ice cream cones.  I’m making them look like water with little bears floating in gummy savers and jelly beans for beach balls.  Carter saw what I was doing and was APPALLED that I was using his leftover jelly beans from Easter as beach balls.  The Easter Bunny gave HIM those jelly beans and I couldn’t use them for the cupcakes (never mind the fact that they were for him to take to school and I spent WAY too much of my afternoon making them!!!)

So he asked if he could have a jelly bean, but since he had already had a cupcake and it was getting close to dinner time I told him no.  He kept asking and asking, so finally I told him, “Carter would you rather have a teeny tiny jelly bean now, or have a cupcake before bed as your snack.  You need to pick one, you can’t have both.”

Guess what he picked…..yep, the jelly bean.  That boy has issues.  🙂

Happy Mother’s Day

Carter came home on Thursday with my Mother’s Day presents in his backpack.  Since were going to be gone this weekend, he told me I could open my “Valentine” presents right away.  (I had to correct him several times that they were for Mother’s Day!)

The gift bag that Carter made. My three Mother's Day presents were inside.

Have I mentioned lately that Carter is my FAVORITE son?!? He thinks I'm 27 years old, and did you see how much I weigh??? 🙂

Carter explained to me that "I dig you" means you are AWESOME, not that he wants to dig me up with a shovel. 🙂

2011 Carter

The corsage that Carter made me for Mother's Day. It's a handprint, although he cut his in half by mistake. I still love it, although it does kinda freak me out a bit. 🙂

Later in the day we were running errands and stopped at Target.  I needed to pick up a three drawer bin, and I told Carter that it was my Mother’s Day present from Cooper.  He then informed me that Kid’s Day was right after Mother’s Day and that he should be able to pick out a present at Target too.

Carter was informed that EVERY DAY is Kid’s Day and that he was NOT getting a present from Target.
